file uploads.. any way to show progress?

what i want to do is show progress for file uploading sortof like how downloading show how much the file has downloaded, how much time left, k per second...

i have no idea how to do this. would i have to resort to solutions like activex? or are there better ways. i have never seen any method to do this anywhere.

the problem is most internet users, especially newbies abort large uploads because they think nothing is happening!

I doubt it. We can't even get the file size before they try to upload it. All i can sugest (and what i will have to do), is just to plaster warnings all over the place saying don't abort and don't upload files greater than n. Good luck and if you do find a way do you think that you could share it? Would love to hear it.

You will have to resort to some JavaScript, it at all. Take a look at my friend's web site at:

Otherwise, yes, you need an activeX object or a Java Applet or ahem, even a scripted flash4 file which somehow tracks the progress.

I'd say that you'll be best with a simple JavaScript snippet..
