IE, icons (non php related)

Have you ever noticed some sites when bookmarked display a company logo icon, vs the standard url link icon.

www.hotmail.com
www.networksolutions.com

are two examples. I know this is completely non php based, but still, im very curious of how this is done.

Chris,

Create an icon, and then upload it to your /htdocs folder (or the name of the folder where your .htm or .php files reside)

Now important part is, the file must be called favicon.ico

And that should do it.

Note: Your icon should be 32x32 pixels, then browser will shrink it to make it how ever small it is, from my experience.

You can also use an icon resource with 16x16 and 32x32 versions of the icon which gives the best results I believe

Where is this Microsoft hocus-pocus documented? What is the format of a .ico file?

To be honest im not sure where any documentation on browser icon is at. I guess you could find it somewhere with a search.

.ico is an icon file. If you wish to create your own icon or edit one, i would check out
