limiting text

what I'm trying to do is limit the text that is displayed form a result using Mysql and Php3 to generate data I want to limit the text that is displayed
ie

So say That I have the words
Clearmont Memorial Veterians Hospital

but only want to display Clearmont without have to have a new field for the word. Clearmont can this be done.

Any Idea would be helpful

You might want to take look at the mysql function LEFT( col_name, num_chars )

select id, LEFT( name, 20 ) from Person;

You could also just call explode(" ", $text); on your returned string to get just the first set of text followed by a space.
