HTML SSI exe PHP

I'm running IIS5.0 and PHP4 the latest release. I created a hit counter in php. I'd like to know how I could execute this php hit counter from my html web pages. I'd like to execute it as if it was a CGI script using SSIs. Is there anyway to execute a php script from inside an html document? If so, how?
