Keeping userid and password

I have to implement a campus in a web site.
The user comes in via https and he has to enter userid
and passwd, if they are correct (via MySQL users D😎
he can see the contens of the site, but one part of the
site is a campus where he can register himself to a specific course pressing a button. This button goes to
a table and writes userid, course, chapternum, chapterstatus, examstatus, linktochapterzip, linktoexamphp3. Actually userid have to be entered again by the user but my customer doesn't want to do this, when he choose the course. I have the same problem in other page where the user makes a consult of his registered courses/chapters. I have read a lot of
articles, php manuals and I can't find a solution. Has anybody some experience of this, I'm under pressure.
Which's a professional way to store information to get
every userid without asking for?

Well it all depends on which authorization methood you are using, are you using sessions or HTTP Authorization, or something else?

OK, What should I do? now the user is entering via textbox then he choose the course from a combobox
and press a button then the form action points to another php script that includes the user in DB and so on.
How to personalize this php script and get the userid who is trying to register to my courses database?
What do you recommend ? via sessions? How can i do that?
