file problems...

I have a flat password (multi-line) file where data is in following kind of format:

username:password✉account status
username2:password2:email2:account status

Accaunt status is 1 if account is active and 0 when isn't.
The account status is 0 by default and becomes 1 when user activates his/hers account.
My problem is how can I change 0 to 1 easily (= without writing huge ammount of code).

Read the contents in using file("pathtoyourfile");

Uhh, how much do you want to risk having this break
because of multiple clients attempting to access the
file at the same time? You really need a database
to do this safely.

AS Kirk said, if you still want to not use a db, you could (I am not sure on how many users you will have) create a text file for each user
