Alphabetizing Problem

Here's what i'm trying to do, I have a mysql database with over 300 names. I'm trying to make pages in which these names will be displayed by the first letter. For instance a page for A-D and a page for E-J and so forth. Now I know you can alphabetize in mysql by just going "Order By name" but the problem i have is i want to limit it up to D. How would i go about doing that in a mysql statement or php code. I know of the limit function in mysql but that only limits the number of entries and doesn't check to see if it's done. Any suggestions? I thought about adding another column in my database with like A and E to indeicate what page they should be on but i was wondering if there is anythign easier. Thank.

Something like

select * from wookie order by name where name >= 'A' and name < 'E';

gives you everybody from A through D inclusive (while ignoring subtleties such as what happens to with names that start with lowercase letters.)

Just use the upper() to take care of the lowercase scenario:

SELECT * FROM wookie ORDER BY name WHERE UPPER(name) BETWEEN 'A' AND 'D';
