Ending a line with ...

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to cut off someone's paragraphs that are being entered into a guestbook that I am writing. I am not quite sure of to have it cut the text off and write ... to end the view that the user sees. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Say you wanted to limit the users comment to around 200 characters, then cut it off and add '...' to it. Here's one method.

$pcomment = substr($comment,200);
$last_space = strrpos($pcomment," ");
$pcomment = substr($pcomment,$last_space) . "...";
echo $pcomment;

This cuts off the comment at 200 characters, finds the last space so that it doesn't cut of in the middle of a word, cuts off the last part of the word, then adds '...' to it.

That looks pretty nice; but you might want enclose the whole thing in a block controlled by <b>if (strlen($comment) &gt; 200)</b> so you don't add the ellipsis dots to comments thereby implying that there's more to them when there isn't.
