How do I get the usrname + pswd

Hello,

I am using a virtual hosting account to develop my PHP application. Currently, I have a question about how to get the username + psswd of a password-protected directory. Lets say I dont want to write my psswd protection script. I let my hosting account psswd protected directory feature to handle the psswd stuff. When a user logon and get access into this protected account. Is there anyway I can know his/her login name + passwd in order to be used in my PHP application?

Hi Raymond,

You should find the username in the PHP variable $REMOTE_USER.

Question, if your user has already been authenticated by your password-protection feature - why do you need the password in your scripts?

Hi Raymond,

Depending on how PHP is configured on your server, you may be able to access the username and password in the following variables:

PHP_AUTH_USER
PHP_AUTH_PW
