search engine coding help/advice

Didn't really know what category to put this under, so I chose coding since it will indeed be a coding issue.

I have recently created a site that is almost purely dynamic using MySQL and PHP. From there is the homepage and then just a handful of template php files that pull up the content and generate what would seem to be 100s of pages. I am assuming that I will have to create a "search engine" using SQL commands since I actually have no physical pages to index. What I'm asking is, does anyone know how to tackle this? What is the best way to incorporate a full site search when 99.8 percent of my content is pulled from a database (of about 30 tables) on the fly?
