log files keep the history of the queries made to the database. general keeps the log of general queries while update keeps the log of update queries,
log files are made one reason is to debug if something goes wrong.

My question was not "What are logfiles".

I meant to ask you what on earth you were talking about.

You only asked "where are the logfiles". There are 100's of logfiles of 100's of applications, so I as again: "What logfiles?"

I replied whatever i understood from the reply of my message . I did not mean to hurt your ego explaining what are log files.
I am a beginner in MYSQL and i heard that log files are created to keep the history and then i created them(general and update log files), but at a given instance of time only one of them works, so i wanted to know how they can be made to work simultaneouly,

I didn't mean to scream at you, I just wanted to make clear that your initial question did not have enough information for me or anybody to answer it.

By the way, I do have a huge ego, but I am not here to show off :-)
I learn new things here every day, and I hope maybe I can teach newbies like you a few tricks, but if you need information you'll have to make your questions a little more understandable than at the beginning of this thread.. 🙂

If you check out the mysql manual you will find just about everything you needf to know about how to turn on logging, and where the logs will go.
