Saving Flash Variable using PHP to text file

Hi,

I have created a flash hits counter which its on my internet server which is UNIX.

I can load a text file containing HITS=234 which my animated counter shows, but I can't then save it back to the server (i.e. HITS=HITS+1)
The variable is saved in a text file.

I would very much appriciate it for any pointers which could help me.

p.s. I'm very much a newbie at PHP !
