disabling HTTP headers

I need to create a function that does not make use of the HTTP/1.1 header responses but is instead handled by the script. Is there any way to abort all headers php/apache sends back, excepting those of my choosing?

I think that the answer is "no".

Apache does have an option to send file "as is" (see Apache's manual), but I don't think that asis-files will work in combination with PHP.

Apart from that, see Apache's "header unset" option which will probably enable you to disable some (but not all) headers.

I bet that if you use header followed by exit you'd just send your own headers and no more from php (no more data either.)
