How to check a page for a certain string?

I would like to make a code that checks if
people have linked to my site before they
can continue adding their link.
Does anyone have an idea how to pull this off?

ask them for page containing the url, read page\'s content with fopen etc

check the content for the string with ereg

and I want to see if they added my code so I want to look for

how would I go about doing this?
