Not unless your mail agent (Usualy sendmail under Linux) understands how to, which is highly unlikely, SMTP (Mail) and NNTP (News) are two slightly different protocals.
Otherwise you'll have to make due with programming a simple wrapper function for uploading messages to news servers, not really a difficult task if you don't need to upload file attachments. Thou I think some people have already done this so you might not want to go dupicating their work, check the code base.
