Adding an ID column too late...

I have question that I hope the answer is "yes" but please help..

I created a table and started filling it with rows. Unfortuanatly, I negleced to add an ID column.

Now, I figure out I need an ID coluimn in that table. Is there a way to add the ID column and auto_increment arguement to make it fill all the rows already in the table?

The answer is yes, use this statement:

ALTER TABLE table_name ADD column ID smallint(6) NOT NULL auto_increment primary key;

Change the type of ID column at your will.

This is an old thread... but it is a good one! 🙂

However, what if you want to begin the sequence from a number other than 1? What about 10000?
