How can I make my site call a index.php3 instead of index.htm?

Read the documentation for your web server (it isn't a PHP issue). If you are not running your own web server, ask your hosting company that same question, and they'll be glad to answer.

Nate is right but if your hosting company gives you flack you could simply write a an index page with a refresh meta tag in it:

oh...one thing...make the content"120; URL=*php" part equal to when you want and where you want the refresh to go...

for you, the 120 will probably be 1 (you could try 0 for a quicker refresh too but I am not sure how that works). Of course the URL is the php page you want to load.

there should be a way to have html files parsed like php files by adding a line to the .htaccess file.
kinda wish i knew what the line was.

The line is

AddType application/x-httpd-php3 .php3 .html

BTW, any idea on how to have a php script set up the username so httpd doesn't ask again for login/passwd?
