GD question

If I create a image with the GD functions, can you save it or just output it? If you can save it, how do you do that?

Quoting from the "cover page" of the Image Functions section of the manual:

ImageGIF — Output image to browser or file
ImagePNG — Output a PNG image to either the browser or a file
ImageJPEG — Output image to browser or file
