system(), exec() does not work

Hi all.

I am trying to execute some simple commands like "ls -l > testfile" or "/bin/ls / > testfile" on the server via PHP's system(),ecec()... command but it dosn't work.

I have also tried some examples from the PHP-Manuals and so on...

Help! Whats wrong here?

I hope you're using linux/unix
Because I doubt those commands work with windows 🙂

What kind of errors are you getting?

make sure the web user has write access to the current directory or write access to the dir you're outputting to.

I have no idea what path > testfile would go to personally and I would never give the web user write permissions on any folder under documentroot.

Check your security and try again.
