display of count (*)

hi,

i've searched the forum but wasn't able to find anything on my actual problem that being how to actually display the mysql table count.

it's simply a "select count (*) from blabla where blabla"

do i have to read the count value into a variable to echo it back or something else?

use
select count(*) as TotalCount from blabla where blabla

then get TotalCount from the result set. In phplib the remaining code is

$db -> next_record();
$db -> p("TotalCount");

thank you very much. just a question regarding the count thing though, do you know if count (*) is implemented in all versions of mysql? it seems that the version i'm using always returns an "0 is not a MySQL result index" error when i put in the count.

count() is part of every version of mysql

If you're getting the message "not a result index" then there's a syntax error or something else wrong with your query itself.

jep, i just noticed that i had an extra freespace between count and the bracket, works like a charm now, thanks a lot!!
