I'm looking for some environmental var/function from which i can get the timezone of the remote machine...
so if you live in france you get times displayed in gmt+1 etc.. (like at www.voodooextreme.com)

www.voodooextreme.com uses javascript code to achieve this. I don't believe this information is sent to the server, so you can only do this client-side.
