.htpasswd login question

I need to show the username that a person a person logged in with. The file I want it to show up on (index.php) is in a directory protected by .htaccess and .htpasswd. I need it to show the username the person logged in with on the index.php. How would I do this?

The username is stored in the variable $REMOTE_USER so you can simply echo that out.

Thank you. That was easy enough. I was trying to do it with $AUTH_USER for some reason, I'm dumb.
