HTTP_REFERER and Flash

Does anyone have experience trying to pull out the HTTP_REFERER variable, when the link to the PHP page trying to read the value actually came from a Flash file, and embedded getURL link?

In my experiences, the value seems to be blank when linked to in this manner. Which sucks, because it means that a self-contained, trackable flash is not really an option.

Any thoughts?

Instead of using flashes getURL(), call a javascript function which resides outside of the flash. Maybe something like this:

function jsGetUrl(theUrl)
{
    location = theUrl;
}

Javascript will report the referer in most browsers and flash can call external js functions.

Thank you for the information. That is a fine solution...I was just trying to find a solution where flash itself contained all necessary code, where the SWF could be distributed and there would be no way that the hosts could screw up the tracking.

Seems impossible, though. I suppose I could do a "javascript:location.href='xxx'", but that wouldn't work in IE Mac.
