selecting a db

Hi

This may sound stupid... apologies in advance.

What i would like to know is that if on one page a have a number of sql statements/scripts that do differerent things . i.e count records, show recent articles etc, do i have to have mutiple :

$db - mysql_select_db (blah blah)

or would one suffice for the whole page and all sql statements ?

another thing.
Is there a good php/mysql coding techniques guide or something ?

It doesn't sound stupid, but it is a bit obvious.. :-)

Once you select a database it will stay selected untill you select another database or untill you close the connection.
