html tags and email

How can i do this :

What i have is a form where people enter text with html tags like <p> or <br> or <a href> etc . Mainly tags to space out the text or new paragraphs or bold. What i want to be able to is insert the information into the mysql database with the way its being formatted i.e with the tags . So that if people view the page/article via a browser, it displays correctly. Now once that is done, i am giving site visitors an option to email the content/article, but i dont want the tags to be sent, but the format of the article remain intact when emailed..

Am i asking toooo much here ??

okay, its not too much.

1> I am assuming you are storing the article in mysql(or any other) in a BLOB format.

2> try strip_tag function, which will strip off the html/php tags look at this url

use regular expressions to get rid of the HTML tags from your text.

e.g.
eregi_replace('<B>', '', $text);

where first argument is the patern that you are looking for, second one is replacement, which is '' (in other words NOTHING), and thrid argument $text is your actual text that has these html tags.

anyway, i am changing the original HTML tag of BOLD to just for the example here...

the original function in previous post was:

eregi_replace('', '', $text);

The way you are suggesting would require lufupa to call one ereg_replace function for each html tag there is as you never know what html tags the user is going to enter

I think there might be a bit of "mis-understanding" here ..

What i DO want to be able to do is insert those basic bold,paragraph,line break type of tags into the database ( the field is a text field). But when the article gets emailed to someone, i dont want the html tags displayed. but the format of the article i.e. bold text or paragraphs etc should be retained. Looking at some sites that have email facility, i emailed myself some articles & it seems it NOT possible to do what i am asking. If i strip the tags, i lose the formatting. so the tags stay, other site have the same.

You can do one thing..... create an htm file and send it as a MIME attachment to the email address you specify.... this might not be feasible in most cases but all the same I hope I gave you a different idea at what else can be done
