getting line count

I goto this site and they have like count of the line of code they have like so:
Visual Basic
(1,023,482 lines)
(2,316 jobs)

I am wondering how they are able to get that count? is there something similar in PHP because that site is in asp. Thanks for the help! 🙂

Getting a count is just... well.. counting!
If you have a database full of snippets of code
you can just store the linecount along with it
and add all the linecounts up when you display the stats.
This is not ASP or PHP specific.

True but how do you count lines of code.. is there a specific function i don't know about? than again.. how many functions do i know hunh vincent? 🙂

use Line

this will returnt he current line number in your script.

generally, lines of code are terminated by a newline character. Theoretically all you have to do is count the newline characters.

You can probably use count_chars() to do that.
Or you could use file() to read a textfile into an array and cound the array's items: count($array)
