Which is fastest?

Is there a article or something somewhere on which one is the best choice and when?

echo is fastest, because it doesn't set a return value. Mind you, we are talking fractions of fractions of percentage of a fraction of a second here.

To be sure, write a script that prints a few thousands lines with each method and use the microtime() to see how long they take each.

Note: print a few lines before you start your measurement or you might also measure the time it takes to initiate buffers etc...
