getting data from a ssl auth server.

Hi, i've recently taken on a little project and i'm trying to get a page thats inside ssl and httpd authentication.. if i try somthing like

$fp = file("http://user:[e-mail]/file.php") and it connects just fine, but when i try to do

$fp = file("httpS://user:[e-mail]/file.php");

it returns that the file doesn't exists.. I've tried using sockets but its confusing... any ideas on how i could make a connection? Kinda emulate a browser to a ssl server with authentication?

https requires 2 way dynamic communication and php is unable to to do that at this time.

In fact i seached other languages like perl and unable find a library that will give me the contents of a secure page.

If anyone knows, please let me know...

We are currently working around this problem as well. A co-worker found the CURL functions in the PHP manual (do a function search for curl) and we are in the process of installing and trying that. curl supposedly allows you to connect and retrieve info from most any protocol including SSL via HTTPS.

Please let me know if you have any luck with it.

If, by the off chance you are using a Windows server that has the latest MSXML 3.0 SP2 (free download), you can use MSXML's ServerXMLHTTP object to send and receive requests via SSL. You can instantiate and call the object using PHP's COM interface for windows. It doesn't really matter if the request or response is actually XML.

I got into a similar situation, where I had to access a .NET web service that was on a password protected secure server from a PHP script. At the end, I wrote a Perl script that connected to the secure server, POST'ed the required data, then returned the results to STDOUT. I then called this script using the exec() function from a PHP script.

It's a hack, but it works (at least it did for me).
