Pre epoch dates

I would like to take a few dates that are prior to 1970 and print the difference in days, months, and years. I will store some date information in a MySQL table but think PHP4 would be the way for doing all the calculations between dates. How can I do this?

After posting I tried the same thing on dates after 1970 with the same results so now I have used mktime()with the date and simple arithmatic for getting days...
Is there a built in function that will return the real number of years, months and days from 2 dates, or 2 timestamps?
