Need ansi color->html conterter

Help!
I am in need of a function to convert ANSI color escape codes
into html <font color=#xxxxxx> stuff...Needed for an IRC log
to html viewer.

Your best bet is to make an array like
$colors = array(
ansicode = htmlcode,
...
);

and do a replace in your log $log with
foreach(array_keys($colors) as $key) {
$newtext = ereg_replace($key, "<FONT COLOR=\"#".$colors[$key]."\">", $log);
}

It replaced my tag with the actual html tag! Let me take another shot.

foreach(array_keys($colors) as $key) {
$newtext = ereg_replace($key, "FONT COLOR=\"#".$colors[$key]."\"", $log);
}

and, put in the < and > where it belongs around the font tag.

I am very new to php, and have been searching for a way to convert files containing ansi color codes to html color for a long time now....

If someone could literally spell it out for me, how i could make this line:

[37mDuncan [1;31mDESECRATED[0;37m Guard into a bloody mess.[0m

into:
<font color="green">Duncan <font color="brightred">DESECRATED<font color="green"> into a bloody mess.</font>
