Expire HTTP header problem

When I use the header() function to set a new Expire HTTP header date. The actual Expires header returned by Apache contains two(!) dates, the original (very old) date, and my set date appended, and separated by a ",".

Is there any way to completely override the date?
Has it something to do with the session handling?

I read Your message regarding the double expires-headers with php and apache, and I stuggle with the problem right now.

Did You come up with any solution?
Primary I need to cache images, included from javascript, so i guess a simple cgi-script might do it if it's impossible from php4.0.6.

Please let me know if you came to some good conclusions in this issue,

Our webserver moved to another (dedicated) machine. This solved the problem because there is a newer version of PHP installed.

I've never found the solution to the problem itself. A newer version might help...
