removing escaped characters "\"

I'm creating a PHP page that submits to a database and sends an email, but i want the information to be in plain text format. At the moment, the emails come through with the escaped character "\" and then the punctuation, same in the mySQL database. I need it in plain text format.

Can anyone help me out here, or am I being silly and have missed something blatantly obvious?

Have you tried using stripslashes($variable), Before you enter the information to the database?

Use the stripslashes function to remove escapes in plain text.

stripslashes($content);
