Session alternative for PHP3 ?

Hi,

I am developing a site that will have a little shoppingsystem in it, but my server is using PHP3, so no sessions available :-(
I have a page with all the articles on it, if you click the buy button it should add the article in the cart, how do i store the contents of the cart until the user is ready to checkout or leaves the site ?

phpLIB offers sessions for php3 if I'm not mistaken.
Otherwise you'll have to come up with you own sessions.
It's not that difficult, just assign a random number, use serialize to get the vars into a printable format, and write/read that string to a file.
