I can write a function that counts hits, each time a page is accessed, but is there a way to count how many times a file has been downloaded? Where would I call the function?

Any help much appreciated.

why dont u use js to:
onclick on the link open a small php page in another windows which updates the db then when the update is finished it close itself....:
th main page start the download, the son update then close....
or
when u click on "download now" it will open a page that updates the db the starts the download automatically.... but i dont know how start a download automatically.... if u know tell me 🙂

Very similar to the solution I came up with, only I did the whole accessing the database right inside the javascript function. Just drop into php, do the magic stuff, then back out of php to finish the js function.

I AM going to go follow that other link to see what that solution is about, though! :-)
