Actually, the first question would be are you using the apache dll and running PHP in process or are you running PHP as an external process ? If you are running the internal version the session files should die when you say destroy. If you are running the out of process version, all bets are off, I've had session files sit around for weeks, they aren't hurting anything, but, they are useless.
