PHP 4 Gif Output

Hi, guys!

We've got a major problem having PHP GIF output. We wouldn't like changing PHP for something else to be a solution.

So, please, if anybody knows the answer or has got a working PHP script that outputs GIG to HTML browser OR at least if somebody knows such algorythm. Please answer!

In detail: You see we'd like to create some sort of banner exchange with php and mysql.
Something to work like <img src="ourscript.php">. The OS is Linux (Debian).

A very simple way to do this is to use passthru().

ourscript.php would contain:
<?php
print header( "Content-type: image/gif" );
passthru( "cat /path/to/gif/image.gif" );
?>

in it's simplist form.
