Sessions across folders

Are sessions supposed to work only in the folders they are created in and its child folders..

\parent
\child1
\child2
\child3

Can a session initialized in a folder [child1] be seen in the [parent] folder or for that matter in folders [child2],[child3]

I am not able to get a session var registered in folder [child1] be Seen in the [parent] folder or any of the other [child] folders

How do I get it to work ?

Are you using cookied to get the SID?

Yes I am using cookies

-\parent
--------\child1
--------\child2
--------\child3 ....4..5..6..10

I have to login in child1 and have the session stay thru child1..2..3....10

right now I am redirecting from child1 to parent directory to login so that the session
stays thru child1..2..3....10

However the login needs to happen in child1
so redirecting to \parent is not a good way I feel, but my only option for now till I find a better way...

Cookie have paths, some browsers only send cookie data if the requesting path/domain is the same as the path/domain that set the cookie.

Read the manuakl section about cookies for more info, or move to sendinf the session ID in the URL (more reliable but more complicated)

I am using IE5 on windows and running Apache-php on windows..... i never had this problem with IE5 on windows when I was running Apache-php on Linux....

All the same I'll read the manual and see if it has any thing I can use .... thanks .. maybe I'll get back right here after that .....

I could not get anything of help to sort out this problem ....so I am assuming that this is probably a feature/bug? of php sessions

Any suggestions or suitable workarounds you can think of?
