logon system

Hi there ,

I have an website with following structure :

logon => homepage => page1
=> page2
=> page3 => page4
=> page5 => page 6

I want to introduce an logon page wich you must use in order to see the
homepages and the other ones.
If some-one new the adres of for example page5 and he is not passed via the
logon acces must be denied.
How can I program that ???????
If I ' m for example on page 6 the system must remember the username where
the user is logged on.
How can pass the username of the logon page to all the other pages ?????

Can some-one help me with this and give perhaps a small example ?????

Hey Gerry,
I assume you are running PHP4 or > with this assumption, let me run the logical structure for you :

1. A person cares to drop by your site and wishes to use the site, i asume your client is a registered user, ie you have a username and password set for him.
2. Assuming he logs in for the first time, authenticate him through the database or whichever methid you are using.
3. Once authenticated, set sessions for this username and/or password too.
4. If you need to hold persistant information, like remember him after 1 yrs or so, then drop off a cookie with similar information (just username would be the best), set the time of expiration for more than a year.
5. Now on everypage, start the sessions and check if the session is a registered session and the value is not a null value. If persistant website, then check for the cookie on all the pages. Now its easy, if the cookie or the session is not present, force a login by redirecting to the login page.

This is all the logic you will need. I hope this will help.
