partial display to browser

Is there a way to set PHP so that it starts delivering content to the browser immediately, rather than waiting until the page is complete? I have a long process that I'd like to see the status of while it's working, rather than waiting until the very end.

I realize that if it's nested in a table that the browser may not begin rendering it anyway, but for some types of pages this can be very helpful.

Your echo and print statements should output to the browser as they occur. I have a long routing that I echo status lines as it goes. It works pretty well.

If that doesn't work for you PHP has a flush() command that is supposed to send everything that it's currently buffering to the browser.

I can't get it to work, even with the flush(). Perhaps it's in the configuration? Here's the simple code:
