What table was last updated?

How can I tell when a table was last updated. I would like to diplay this for the user via a webpage.

Not possible. I am using a cron job to grab a txt file from another website. Then the cron drops the current table and imports the text file.

Is there anyway to tell when a table was created using a internal function?

Are you saying the table is basically recreated at intervals, and never has any rows added or updated in between? Then the timestamp column will certainly suffice: just saying

select my_timestamp from table limit 1

will get you an arbitrary row whose timestamp value is guaranteed to be during the time when the new copy of the table was being loaded. If that's not good enough, index the table by the timestamp column so you can get the earliest/latest timestamp as desired.

Yes, the table is recreated every night with no changes in between the nightly population. If I can help it I don't want to add an extra field field for the time stamp. The table has over 10,000 rows and if I add a time stamp to every row that is a lot of extra data.

I am thinking of creating another table that just has one row and one field, the timestamp. After the main table is updated each night then I will just write the timestamp to the small table.

you're running this on a cronjob ?
surely you what time that runs and therefore when the table is updated.
if not then as part of your cronjob (perl script ?) get it to print the time when its finished and put your output from the cronjob into a textfile eg

1>/usr/local/blah/blah/log

to a txtfile when its done, this will write over itself each night, read the file and boom boom, your update time
