preg_replace and eval

Hey,

can anybody make this work:

$html= preg_replace("/<\?(.+)\?>/e", "eval(\"'\1'\")", $text_that_may_contain_php);

I've tried pretty much different possibilities, esp concerning those >"< and >'< (escaping, not-escaping aso...)

What is it you want to do, and what are you putting into this function?

Well, it should be as flexible as can be! But I'm afraid, eval() is limited to execute only a single function as 'stripslashes(...)' or the like. I'd like to parse a entire script in it, which - I guess - won't work??!!

What is the goal of this function? what do you want to use it for?
