Catching URL from browser

hello,

This is a very tough question read carfully.

I have two frames ( frame1, frame2 )
frame1 = top frame
frame2 = bottom frame

When the user types a url into their browser I would like the url to be put into a variable then have frame1 stay where it is and show the url of where the user wants to go. Then have frame2 actually goto that url.

Can you even do this?

If so please help me out,

and when will this URL be followed? Do you want the user to put it in and the desired effects take place or do you want them to follow a link?

The whole thing can be impossible to do but it depends on what you wanna do. After there is no way to pick up the url unless the user actually surfs to your scripts.

You can pick up the diffrent parts of the URL with the $HTTP_ variables.
Use frame2 as target and pick up the variables where ever you wanna.

I used the $HTTP_HOST to pick up some parts of an URL when I built a site called both kortspel.nu and spelkort.nu.

I'd like it if the user could enter in the URL in their browser then when they hit enter have the page they want load in frame2 and then have frame1 one stayat the top and then frame1 show the URL that they went to.

I'm fairly certain that there isn't any way to run a script when the user types a specific address (maybe not even on your site) into his browser. You could, however, do what you're talking about fairly easily if you tell the user to enter the URL into a form field in your top frame (or in a third frame).

In your bottom frame, you have the form that user can input the URL.
And the action part should be pointing to PHP script.

In your PHP script,
you generate the HTML file for your top frame.
and at the end of your PHP script you again
generate the whole HTML file for your bottom frame.

So when user click the submit button it will generate the same bottom frame so that user cannot even know if the frame has been changed.
But this time you want to have one more HTML line that shows the URL user just now input.
