work out which page user has come from

Hi,

Is there any way of (eg php reserved word etc) that I can identify which page a user has come from. I am not worried about a user arriving from a different website...I just need to ensure that a user can access a specific web page if they have arrived from a distinct web page.

Check the HTTP_SERVER_VARS named array variable which PHP populates. You can see it by simply calling PHP's internal info function:

I think there is a HTTP_REFERRER in there that "sometimes" holds what you want. The variable isn't always set, though, and different browsers set it differently. If the user just types in the address, I don't think it's set at all.

Just something to consider.

Agreed. I believe this variable is only set to something useful if the client arrives at your page by clicking from another page.

The variable will be set if they go to it from their bookmarks/favorites, but the information is useless, unless you want to know that they clicked a bookmark to get to your page.
