is mysqld running? unless you installed it as a service, you will need to restart the daemon everytime you restart you computer.

no, it is not running, that's what my problem is ...and if I type
msqld-shareware.exe -install ...it says it cannot install the service! what next?

type:
C:\MySQL> mysqld-shareware --standalone
this will run the daemon as a stand alone process, meaning you can close the command prompt window after you run this command.

I had this problem with MyAdmin also. The line it's refering to is a spot that incorporates the MySQL login/pass (obviously). I simply went to that line, and plugged in the login information manually. Not 100% sure WHY that works, but it did for me.
