Creating a long session with php4?

Hi,

i'm working with sessions on my site for the login/logout,

i'm using PHP4, and i dont have my own server, the site is hosted somewhere.....

When a user logs in, a session is made, and when he closed his browser, the session is closed so when i goes back, he has to login again.......

Someone told me that you should set a cookie with the sessionid in it, but i don't know how to use that sessionid then, when i get it from the cookie, what to do with it?
Isnt the session deleted from the server?

Can someone help me with this?

The automatic sessions of PHP are intended for temporary sessions, after a time of inactivity defined in the server (in the php.ini and .htaccess files) the session is deleted.

Cookies are used automatically for these sessions and you need to do nothing for their use.

If you want persistent sessions where the user is logged in until he logs out explicitly, you'll need to whip out your own cookies and you own sessions mechanism that you will need to maintain. Check out PHPLib, it has sessions but I'm not sure if they can be persistent or not.
