Session ID keeps refreshing...

I'm sort of a novice of PHP so I'm having some trouble with a basic shopping cart. I'm using an ODBC database so mySQL stuff isn't helping too much...but, I'm having trouble giving the user a session ID for the shopping cart. Every time the page is refreshed, the ID is refreshed also, making it impossible to add things to the user shopping cart. Can anyone help me with some code that will allow a static userID or session ID for each user for a shopping cart?

Manuals are your friends. Please read them.

You have to send the sessionID along from page to page.
If you don't PHP will think you are a new visitor, and give you a new sessionid.

Either include it in the URL/forms or use cookies (I recommend the URL)

Manuals sux they don't tell you everything there is about a subject, but they only tell what the writer thinks he knows about the subject.

Anyways, the session id can be automatically send from script to script, just set register_globals=on in your php.ini file and if you have a version lower than PHP 4.0.3 you have to turn on track_vars also. If this doesn't work please check if your php is compiled with --enable-trans-sid (normally it is). Last option is as vincent tells to send your session id manually with every script in this case your current session id is know as SID.

lol yeah, those manual writers don't know anything about PHP do they, they just wrote it that's all. (get the sarcastic hint?)

Normally it isn't because trans-id neither nor desirable reliable, read the manual.

What about using cookies to transport the sessionid? oh right, that was explained in the manual so it must be wrong eh?

Next time, if you want to be a 'knowitall' smartass, at least get your facts straight.
Maybe the manual is not such a bad place to get info about PHP after all?
