Repost Tricks?

Does anyone out there have some sort of a trick that is near and dear to their heart about how to handle posted data and not having to repost the data on a "browser back" command.

for instance i'm making this up): i have a multipart form submission...where you create a record in a database on the first post including name and description of group, then you add members to the group by selecting them from a highlight list and post that to create multiple entries indicating member_id and group_id, finally you assign titles to members in the group and post that data.

now...if on the thrid part i want to click back to go ALL the way back to the first form and change the decription (of a now already posted group) i get the repost problem as well as a loss of the originally entered data, if i go back to the second form i'd like to see the highlighted members that i had orginially hgihlighted.

I have a lot of friends who are stumped on this for their own sites and we all have our own ideas on how to get it to work, but i have yet to hear a "Great" idea.

on my sites i use something similar, it is one php page that shows multiple forms. i pass data from the previous forms through hidden input fields. it can also be done through a session. when the user gets to the last page, you can enter all the data into the db at once. if you want to be able to go back and revise and still not lose info on following pages, you will need to use a session. store all the field values as the user goes through the forms and if the session contains data for a form, fill it in for display on the form.
