Creating a modified file for each dl?

I'm not sure if I can describe this very well, but here we go.

On the project I'm working on, I need to modify an exisiting binary file depending on the visitors input and then let them download the modified file. But, I don't want to write the file since it would pile up fast (with unique file names) or only allow one visitor to download at a time. Has anyone come up with a folution for this before?

If I understand correctly, you could let the files be created, even if would pile up fast.

I am not a very good programmer so I don't know if these ideas might work, but:

• You could let it be created. If you know the final file size, maybe write a script that would delete it after sometime on the server? Like, delete it in one or two days, or maybe a lower time if you can calculate what the average time the person will get to download it.

• Maybe e-mail it to the person? Then after the e-mailing process is completed the script deletes it.

• I guess when someone download something, and the download is completed, some kind of instruction is sent to the server. Maybe if you find what is this instruction, how to intercept, let a script analize it and delete the file informed by these client-server transactions?
