Special Characters in a text file

Help needed please!

I'm doing a Shopping facility, and I am using a PHP form processor to grab a text file and send it as a response email.

In that text file I want to use the UK Pound sign: £

However, when the text file is grabbed and sent as an email, this sign is ignored.

I understand that this is an escape character in PHP, but what do I do?

I've tried all sorts of things, nothing works!

To escape a character in PHP prepend a .
Thus "\£".

However, if you are sending a MIME encoded email then a pound sign needs to be represented as £
e.g. $message = "<BODY> the price is £$price</BODY>\n";

Thanks, but I've tried it, and as this is on the server as a plain text file,

Therefore: £ is printed as £

Hi Pax,

I think u can use function htmlentities() which convert all applicable characters to HTML entities.

Try and see whether this works...I am not sure.
