PHP filling out forms automatically

I have a problem with a form and would like to know simply if it is possible to have PHP automatically fill out a field when something is changed (like onChange()) in JavaScript?

I am trying to create an order form that appears all on one page that people can choose simply the number of books they want to order and then submit their card info but I want the form to be able to calculate their sales tax, shipping, total as they choose their tax rate, etc.

Any words of advice?

php is server side, not client side. php can't modify a page client side without the user reloading the page.

either refresh the page after every selection having php update the page, or better yet use javascript client side and once the user is finished verify that the javascript calculated data agrees what php expects and use php to save the data to the db.

you can use javascript to fill out the fields of caculcation in your form. and then on submit php will recieve those values obviously.

else, you can use php to do the calculation, but that will need to be done on server side. i.e. you will have to use hidden input fields on submittion or cookies.

choice is up to you.

php can't do this as it's server side--- they will have to post the info.

However, you can use js to do this - I believe someone in the office did a side project for a non profit org.

Is it possible to take the information from a database, to fill out the form, so that when the form is resubmitted to the database, it doesnt lose information left blank? The database I'm using holds all the information on one person. But the update form I have overwrites all data on the database. Causing the blank areas to wipe out previous data.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sure. To propagate the form with information from a database, simply run a query to retrieve the records into an array, object or whatever your preferred method is, and fill out the form fields as such:
